The Irregular Corporation is a British video game publisher based in London, dedicated to financing, developing, and publishing original games built for niche markets and passionate player communities. The label was established in December 2015 as a sister company to Mediatonic, the London developer co-founded in 2005 by Dave Bailey and Paul Croft, whose leadership branched into publishing after growing their studio through a balance of original games and work-for-hire projects. Staffed by an experienced group of development and publishing professionals who had collectively worked on more than a hundred games with a wide range of publishers, The Irregular Corporation positioned itself as a developer-focused partner, treating the needs of the teams it supports as seriously as the games themselves. The label's guiding idea was that players' varied passions deserve dedicated experiences, leading it to champion distinctive concepts that larger publishers might overlook and to help independent studios realize their full commercial potential through finance, production, and marketing support.
That philosophy produced a notable breakout in the simulation space with a hands-on computer-assembly game, developed in collaboration with an independent creator, which let players diagnose, repair, and build custom PCs using a wide roster of officially licensed hardware brands, drawing a large and enthusiastic audience across PC and consoles. The label also published a space-agency management strategy game developed in partnership with the European Space Agency's input and a picture-logic puzzle mystery, alongside other genre-spanning titles. In June 2020, Bailey and Croft formed Tonic Games Group as a parent company uniting Mediatonic, Fortitude Games, and The Irregular Corporation, a family of nearly 300 people across multiple locations. In March 2021, Epic Games acquired Tonic Games Group, bringing The Irregular Corporation under Epic's ownership alongside its sister studios, where it continues within one of the industry's largest independent game companies, its catalog carrying forward the label's founding commitment to original, community-focused games.
