Skybound Games is the video game publishing division of Skybound Entertainment, the American multiplatform entertainment company founded in 2010 by Robert Kirkman and David Alpert. Skybound works in concert with Image Comics and is home to Kirkman's Eisner Award-winning comic series The Walking Dead, along with Invincible, Outcast, Oblivion Song and other creator-driven properties. The company has carried those stories well beyond the page. Kirkman and Alpert served as executive producers on AMC's television adaptation of The Walking Dead, Outcast ran on Cinemax, the Invincible animated series has streamed on Prime Video since 2021, and the 2023 feature film Renfield was produced with Universal. Skybound announced its games division in April 2018 with a two-part mandate: publish standout independent games, and license video games built on Skybound's own properties. Its first announced deals brought console versions of Monomi Park's Slime Rancher and Hinterland's survival game The Long Dark to new audiences, which marked Skybound Games as a publisher willing to back carefully crafted indie work.
The division's defining moment came in October 2018. The collapse of Telltale Games had left The Walking Dead: The Final Season unfinished partway through its run, and Skybound Games stepped in to complete the last two episodes, "Broken Toys" and "Take Us Back," which gave Clementine's story the ending players had been following since 2012. Skybound also released physical editions of the season for PlayStation 4, Xbox One and Nintendo Switch. It secured the publishing rights to Telltale's entire Walking Dead series, which let the games return to digital storefronts, and in 2019 it gathered every season into The Walking Dead: The Telltale Definitive Series for Windows, PlayStation 4, Xbox One and Switch. In February 2019 Skybound announced console releases of Beamdog's enhanced editions of six Dungeons & Dragons classics (Baldur's Gate, Baldur's Gate II, Baldur's Gate: Siege of Dragonspear, Icewind Dale, Planescape: Torment and Neverwinter Nights), extending its role as a steward of well-loved older games. Between 2021 and 2023 Skybound went from the largest to the majority shareholder of developer and publisher 5th Planet Games. Its games ambitions kept growing from 2025, leading to Invincible VS, a 3v3 tag fighter built by its in-house studio Quarter Up, which launched in April 2026 to generally favorable reviews as Skybound's first internally developed game. For players, Skybound's stewardship is why Telltale's Walking Dead saga is still available to play today, starting with The Walking Dead: Season One and Lee and Clementine's first steps through a collapsing Georgia.
