Nixxes Software was founded in 1999 in Utrecht, the Netherlands by Jurjen Katsman, and for more than two decades has been the quiet engine behind some of gaming's most polished conversions. The studio began as a technical partner to Crystal Dynamics, handling conversions of the Legacy of Kain series, and grew into the go-to porting house for Eidos and later Square Enix - delivering the PC versions of Tomb Raider: Legend, Anniversary and Underworld, the acclaimed 2013 Tomb Raider reboot, Rise of the Tomb Raider and Shadow of the Tomb Raider, as well as the PC editions of Deus Ex: Human Revolution and Deus Ex: Mankind Divided. Where many ports of the era were treated as afterthoughts, Nixxes built its name on the opposite - PC versions with deep settings menus, cutting-edge graphics features and performance tuned to scale from modest laptops to enthusiast hardware.
That reputation made the studio one of the most consequential acquisitions in PC gaming when Sony Interactive Entertainment purchased Nixxes in July 2021, making it the first Dutch member of PlayStation Studios and the spearhead of PlayStation's push onto the platform. Since then Nixxes has brought a stream of former console exclusives to PC - Marvel's Spider-Man Remastered and Marvel's Spider-Man: Miles Morales, Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart, Horizon Forbidden West and God of War Ragnarök among them - each praised for the same obsessive attention to scalability and polish that defined its Tomb Raider work. Still based in Utrecht, Nixxes stands as proof that the craft of the port, done right, is world-class development in its own right.
