Orcs Must Die! 3 takes the series' signature mix of trap-laying strategy and third-person action and scales it up to a full-blown siege. Robot Entertainment's long-awaited successor to the first two games keeps everything that made them work, the kill corridors, the physics-driven combos, the cheerfully gruesome sense of humor, and then pushes the horde outside the castle walls with War Scenarios, mountable War Machines and orc armies hundreds strong.
A New Generation Holds the Rift
The story picks up more than 20 years after Orcs Must Die! 2. The War Mage and the Sorceress have rebuilt the Order and trained a new batch of young apprentices, and it falls to that next generation to keep the rifts closed when the orcs return in numbers no one anticipated. The campaign moves through castles, fortresses and open battlefields, each level a fresh puzzle of choke points and spawn doors, with Robot's trademark banter running the whole way. Play it solo, or bring a partner along in 2 player online co-op and split the defense between you.
War Scenarios and War Machines
The headline addition is scale. War Scenarios move the fight out to the battlefields surrounding the castles and pit you against the largest orc armies the series has ever assembled. Thinning out waves hundreds strong before they breach the walls calls for a bigger class of hardware, and that is where War Machines come in.
- Mega Flip Trap
- An oversized version of the classic launcher. Lay it down across a choke point and it sends dozens of ragdolling orcs cartwheeling into the air at once, buying precious seconds before the survivors regroup and press on toward the walls.
- Mega Boom Barrel Launcher
- A mountable emplacement you climb into yourself. Rain explosive barrels onto the advancing front line and watch whole columns of orcs disintegrate in pyrotechnic glory while your traps handle whatever slips through.
- Dozens of New Traps and Weapons
- Beyond the War Machines, the arsenal grows with tools never seen before in the series, including the Gravity Well trap that picks orcs up off the ground and leaves them hanging helpless for your other traps, the Sawblade Launcher trap, and the Arcane Staff, which rains magic down on enemies all around you when the corridor gets crowded.
More of Everything
Orcs Must Die! 3 is built on the premise that fans wanted more, not different. There are more orcs, more traps, more weapons and more upgrades, all rendered in a sharper, more detailed version of the series' cartoon-fantasy style. The core loop is intact: study the map before the first wave, spend your budget on a layout of floor spikes, wall blades, tar pits and flingers, then run the corridors in third person with a weapon in hand, patching gaps and racking up combo multipliers as the orcs, ogres, gnolls and other repugnant creatures pour in. Skulls earned from each run feed back into upgrades, so every map you clear makes your next layout deadlier.
It Never Stops
Finishing the campaign is only the beginning, because the legions keep coming long after the credits.
- Weekly Challenges are custom-made scenarios put together by Robot's own designers, with fresh rules and constraints each week and a chance to etch your name into the orc-slaying hall of fame.
- Endless Mode asks a single question: how long can you hold the rift? Waves escalate without mercy, and leaderboards let you measure your run against the rest of the community.
- Scramble Mode drops you onto random maps against orcs who evolve with increasingly sinister tricks and debuffs, but every level you survive lets you collect modifiers of your own to fight back with.
- The Drastic Steps campaign is included as part of the game, adding terrifying flying enemies, heroic war guardians who fight at your side, and still more tools for orc destruction.
Man the Walls
Whether you are a veteran who still remembers the perfect tar-and-arrow-wall combo from 2011 or a newcomer who simply likes the idea of launching a hundred orcs off a cliff at once, Orcs Must Die! 3 delivers the most generous, chaotic entry in the series. Pick your traps, grab a friend, and see how long the rift can hold.
