Sixteen years after the original Dead Rising, photojournalist Frank West returns to where his story started — older, more sarcastic, and once again the only person asking the right questions while everyone around him gets eaten. Frank West, Back on the Story
Frank isn't in Willamette by choice; a training assignment gone wrong pulls him into an investigation that reaches well beyond one mall. His camera is a proper tool again — switch between normal, night-vision and spectrum-analyzer modes to document evidence, expose what's hiding in the dark, or grab a grinning selfie while a horde closes in behind you.
Combo Everything
The crafting absurdity the series is known for is at its most unhinged here. Weapons, vehicles and even some of the scenery are raw material for improvisation.
- Tape fireworks to a crossbow, electrify a shopping cart, or build the Sling Ross and watch the crowd react — hundreds of combo weapons reward picking up everything that isn't nailed down.
- Combo vehicles extend the joke to four wheels, welding vehicles together into rolling zombie harvesters that turn a packed street into a high score.
- The Willamette Memorial Megaplex and the surrounding town are dense with stores, stashes and blueprints, so the next terrible idea is never more than a corridor away.
Exo Suits Change the Math
Climb into an exo suit and the power balance flips completely — rip signage off the walls, swing heavy machinery like a bat, freeze zombies solid and shatter entire crowds. Suits run on a timer, which turns every one you find into a short, carefully spent rampage.
A Bigger, Nastier Willamette
Beyond the returning dead, Willamette is crawling with fresh threats — evolved zombies that hunt by sound, human survivors with their own agendas, and a paramilitary presence that considers Frank a loose end. Between story cases there is a whole holiday-decorated town to loot, photograph and survive.
