The Sims 4: Realm of Magic brings sorcery to the neighborhood. Glimmerbrook looks like any quiet countryside town until your Sim finds the hidden portal and crosses into the Magic Realm, a floating world of crumbling towers and glowing waterfalls where three Sages will teach anyone willing to learn. This Game Pack adds Spellcasters as a full occult life state, complete with spells, potions, familiars, duels, and curses, and it requires The Sims 4 base game and all game updates to play.
Find the Portal, Meet the Sages
Glimmerbrook is a small residential world with a secret at its edge. Follow the path past the waterfall and your Sim steps through a portal into the Magic Realm, where Magic HQ and the shops of Casters Alley wait above the clouds. Anyone can visit, but only a Sim who asks a Sage for help and completes their quest is granted the Spellcaster life state. From there the real study begins.
Three Sages hold court at Magic HQ, and each one teaches a different school of magic. Your Sim can learn from all of them, though the perks you choose along the way will shape what kind of caster they become.
- Practical Magic
- Simeon Silversweater teaches the useful, everyday spells: repairing broken objects, cleaning a house in seconds, conjuring a meal out of nothing, and transporting your Sim across a lot. This is the school that makes daily life easier, and it is where most new Spellcasters start.
- Mischief Magic
- L. Faba specializes in trickery. Learn to make two Sims fight, force someone to like or dislike you, and pull off pranks that leave a neighbor confused about what just happened. Mischief spells are ideal for a Sim who enjoys stirring up drama at a gathering.
- Untamed Magic
- Morgyn Ember covers the dangerous end of the spectrum. Untamed spells can set fire to objects, transform Sims into inanimate objects, and even bring back the dead. They are powerful, and casting them carries a real risk when your Sim's charge runs high.
Spells, Charge, and the Cost of Overreaching
Spellcasters progress through ranks from Apprentice up to Virtuoso, earning talent points that unlock perks in Practical, Mischief, Untamed, and Alchemy trees. Spells are learned by reading tomes, practicing at Magic HQ, and studying under the Sages, and every cast builds charge. A little charge makes spells stronger and more reliable, but push it too far and your Sim starts to overload, with spectacular failures and, at the extreme, a death nobody planned for.
Failed spells and losing a duel can leave your Sim cursed. Curses scramble spells, make your Sim ravenously hungry, or cause their charge to spike at random. A skilled alchemist can brew a Potion of Curse Cleansing to lift them, which gives your household a very practical reason to keep a cauldron in the kitchen.
Potions, Duels, and Familiars
Alchemy is its own path within the pack. Gather ingredients around Glimmerbrook and the Magic Realm, then brew potions at the cauldron that spark romance, restore needs, cure curses, or grant immortality. Potions can be drunk, given to friends, or slipped to enemies, and a botched brew has its own consequences.
When two Spellcasters disagree, they can settle it with a duel. Choose to fight for knowledge, for a potion, or simply for pride, and let the outcome decide who walks away with the prize. Familiars round out the toolkit:
- Bind a dragon, a fairy, a phoenix, a skull, a glowfrog, or one of several other familiars to your Sim and give it a name of your choosing. It follows your caster around and adds a little personality to every scene.
- A bound familiar boosts spellcasting and can shield your Sim from the worst of an overload, stepping in to protect its owner when a spell backfires. It is a safety net worth having before your Sim tries anything Untamed.
Dress the Part and Build the Lair
The pack ships with 56 Create-a-Sim items and 79 Build Mode items to give your household a suitably arcane look. Wardrobe options range from flowing robes and pointed hats for a Sim who leans into the theme to subtle, modern pieces for a caster who prefers to keep their gift quiet. Wands and brooms are collectible, with a range of styles to match, and your Sim can travel between lots by broom once they own one.
In Build Mode you will find cauldrons, spellbooks, potion shelves, gothic windows, and moody furniture that fit anywhere from a cottage in Glimmerbrook to a hilltop mansion in another world. Whether you want a witch's cottage, a stately manor, or an apartment with a secret study, the pieces are here.
Your Sim's Story Begins at the Portal
Realm of Magic works because it gives your Sims goals that feel earned. Learning each spell, climbing the ranks, and mastering charge take time, and the world around them rewards curiosity at every turn. Send your Sim through the portal and see which kind of Spellcaster they turn out to be.
