The Sims 3: Showtime is the expansion that puts your Sims under the lights. Move a household to the new world of Starlight Shores, pick a stage career and play out a rags-to-riches story one gig at a time, from a nervous first set in a half-empty park to a sold-out arena with the crowd chanting a name you invented. This is the standard Showtime expansion pack, and it requires The Sims 3 base game (sold separately) with all game updates installed.
Three Stage Careers and a Side Hustle
Showtime adds performance careers that play nothing like the office-and-promotion ladders of the base game. Your Sim books gigs, shows up, performs live and gets judged on the spot.
- Singer
- Start small with a shaky voice and a tip jar, then work up to full sets on bigger stages. Better performances draw bigger crowds, and a Sim who keeps improving eventually earns the right to headline the biggest venues in town.
- Acrobat
- Street-corner tricks grow into full-scale stage routines, fire juggling included. It is the most physical of the three careers, and the one where a flubbed trick in front of an audience stings the most.
- Magician
- Small tricks lead toward large stage illusions with props to match. A confident Magician can hold a packed house; a careless one finds out exactly how a trick looks when it goes wrong on stage.
- DJ
- Not a full career, but a way to moonlight. Put a Sim behind the DJ booth at a club or party, read the room and keep the floor moving. It is a quick route to a little extra money and a lot of extra social interaction.
Starlight Shores, a Whole New Town
Every expansion in The Sims 3 lives or dies by its world, and Starlight Shores is a complete one: residential neighborhoods, community lots and a fresh cast of residents to meet, befriend, date or feud with. The venues are the point. Small stages in parks and coffeehouses are where careers start, mid-sized clubs are where they get serious, and the big arenas are where a Sim proves they belong at the top of the bill.
Dress the Stage, Then Fill It
Showtime hands you the stage as a build tool. Props, lighting rigs, backdrops and special effects are all yours to arrange, so every venue can be set up to suit the act. Off stage, the pack adds a handful of new objects that give a household something to do between gigs.
- The pool table brings a proper game of classic eight ball into the house. It is one of the better social objects in the series, and a natural fit for a Sim who spends nights in clubs.
- The karaoke machine lets any Sim, singer or not, get up and try. Talented Sims impress the room; the rest provide the kind of entertainment that keeps a party memorable for the wrong reasons.
- The mechanical bull is exactly what it sounds like. Sims climb on, hang on for as long as their coordination allows, and are thrown off in front of whoever happens to be watching.
New traits, skills and Lifetime Wishes round out the pack, along with new clothing options, so a Sim built for the spotlight looks and behaves like one from the moment they are created.
Make Your Sim a Star
Showtime is one of the most story-driven expansions in The Sims 3, because it hands you a clear arc and then lets you wreck or fulfill it however you like. Build the act, book the gigs and see how far your Sim's talent, or their nerve, will actually carry them.
