EA Romania's story starts in 2005, when Electronic Arts opened a studio in Bucharest as the company was building out its mobile business. The early team cut its teeth on handset versions of the publisher's biggest brands, among them Medal of Honor, Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix and Need for Speed: Carbon, work that demanded tight engineering against limited hardware and taught the studio to ship dependable builds across a fragmented range of devices. That discipline became the foundation for something far larger. As the FIFA series grew into an annual, live-serviced production, Bucharest was drawn into its development alongside EA Vancouver, making EA Romania one of only two studios in the world where the game was built and earning it a share of the credit on FIFA 23, the final entry released under the FIFA licence.
The studio today occupies AFI Park in Bucharest and counts more than 2,000 employees and collaborators. It is home to EA SPORTS teams working on the EA SPORTS FC franchise, with further contributions to EA SPORTS FC Mobile, EA SPORTS NHL, EA SPORTS Madden NFL, EA SPORTS UFC Mobile, EA SPORTS NBA Mobile and Battlefield, as well as engineering work on the Frostbite engine that underpins much of EA's output. Alongside development sit Enterprise and Platform Services, analytics, cyber security and corporate functions, and a Quality Verification and Standards group whose teams support EA games globally through development and live service, which means a great deal of what EA ships anywhere passes through Bucharest before it reaches players. For anyone holding a copy of FIFA 23, this is the studio on the other half of the credit: the Romanian team that helped carry football's biggest game to its last outing under the old name.
