Games Farm is an independent studio headquartered in Košice, Slovakia, and one of the longest-running names in Slovak game development. Its story began in 2001, when a group of friends who shared a passion for video games came together to build their first title, the isometric action RPG Kult: Heretic Kingdoms, which reached players in 2004 and planted the seed of a franchise the studio still tends today. Early on the team operated under the name 3D People before settling on Games Farm, and shortly after that debut it turned to the skies with Air Conflicts, an arcade-style series of World War I and II combat flight games that grew across the 2010s in partnership with publisher bitComposer Games: Air Conflicts: Secret Wars arrived in 2011 on Windows, Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3, Air Conflicts: Pacific Carriers followed in December 2012, and Air Conflicts: Vietnam rounded out the run before the first two were brought to Nintendo Switch in March 2019. Throughout this stretch the studio also co-developed projects with other developers and publishers across a range of genres and platforms, building the cross-platform experience that defines its work now.
The studio returned to its roots in November 2014 with Shadows: Heretic Kingdoms, an isometric action RPG published by bitComposer that picked up the Kult storyline a decade on, then began a long partnership with Kalypso Media that produced Vikings: Wolves of Midgard in 2017, a Norse-mythology action RPG for PC and consoles, and Shadows: Awakening, which reworked and continued the Heretic Kingdoms saga on Windows, Xbox One and PlayStation 4. Those years brought recognition at home and abroad, including a GameStop best indie game award and Slovak Game of the Year honors in both 2017 and 2018. The company is led by CEO and creative director Peter Nagy, a central figure in the Slovak scene with more than two decades in the industry and collaborations with partners such as Activision, Ubisoft, Valve and Funcom, alongside art director Michal Macák, who joined in 2008 after leading character work at 10Tacle Studios and Pyro Studios, and programming director Jan Turan. Now more than 50 people strong with over 20 released titles, Games Farm continues to develop premium games for PC and consoles, most recently the Norse-themed Jotunnslayer: Hordes of Hel. For players, the studio's catalog is a reliable home for hands-on, loot-driven action RPGs with a distinctly Central European flavor, and Vikings: Wolves of Midgard is the place to start.
