Virtual Basement LLC is a small independent studio based in Concord, New Hampshire, with a distributed team drawn from the United States, Australia and Portugal. It was founded by Ashton Andersen, who serves as creative director and whose earlier work was linked to Primal Carnage, the dinosaurs-versus-humans multiplayer shooter, which made the studio a natural fit when Studio Wildcard needed help populating ARK: Survival Evolved with believable prehistoric life. Virtual Basement produced dinosaur models for ARK, contributing to the creature roster that defines the game, where every tamed raptor, argentavis or rex is a companion the player has knocked out, fed and raised. The studio lists ARK among its partnered games alongside Outlaws of the Old West and Citadel: Forged With Fire, two other survival titles that share ARK's technical lineage.
Alongside that contract work Virtual Basement has developed its own games. The Mean Greens - Plastic Warfare, released in 2015 and co-developed with Code Headquarters, is a team-based third-person shooter in which armies of green and tan toy soldiers fight across oversized kitchen tables, bathtubs and backyards, a lighthearted contrast to the studio's survival-game credits. Its current project, The Wrestling Code, is a wrestling game still in development. The studio's footprint in the ARK world is what brings it to PJ's Games, where the Virtual Basement collection carries ARK: Survival Evolved for PC on Steam.
