Inflexion Games is an Edmonton, Alberta studio founded in 2018 by Aaryn Flynn, the former general manager of BioWare who led that studio from 2011 to 2017 across the later Mass Effect and Dragon Age years. Inflexion began life as the Canadian development arm of Improbable, the London technology company behind the SpatialOS multiplayer platform, and it drew much of its early leadership from BioWare veterans, including art director Neil Thompson. The studio's first project was revealed at The Game Awards in December 2021: Nightingale, a shared-world survival crafting game set in a gaslamp-fantasy Victorian age in which a catastrophe in the Fae portal network has scattered humanity across strange Realms, with the city of Nightingale standing as its last refuge. Players craft Realm Cards to shape the worlds they step into, then gather, build and fight their way through them alone or in co-op, all of it running on Unreal Engine 5. Early in 2022 Improbable sold the studio to Tencent, which made Inflexion a sibling of the many other development houses in the Chinese group's portfolio, Funcom among them.
Nightingale entered Steam Early Access on February 20, 2024, and its first year showed a studio willing to rebuild in public: the launch required an always-online connection, an offline mode followed within months, and the Realms Rebuilt update of September 2024 replaced the original procedurally rolled progression with hand-authored story realms and a far clearer path through the game. That hands-on Unreal Engine 5 experience is what brought Inflexion to Conan Exiles Enhanced, the ground-up Unreal Engine 5 rebuild of Funcom's barbarian survival game, which the two Tencent-owned studios developed together and Funcom published as a free upgrade for existing owners. For players, Inflexion's work is worth following because of that lineage: a team led by people who shipped some of the most story-driven role-playing games of the 2000s and 2010s, now applying that sensibility to survival crafting, where atmosphere, companions and a world's internal logic count for as much as the crafting tree. The Conan Exiles Enhanced credit places the studio inside one of the genre's longest-running communities, while Nightingale's portal-hopping frontier continues to grow in the studio's own hands.
