FIFA 23 is the last EA SPORTS football game to carry the FIFA name, and it goes out with the biggest licensed roster the series ever assembled. HyperMotion2 Technology brings real match capture to every touch and tackle, women's club teams join the international sides for the first time, and both the men's FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022 and the FIFA Women's World Cup Australia and New Zealand 2023 arrived as free post-launch updates. This is the Standard Edition, the complete base game as it stands after those updates.

The World's Game, One Last Time

For almost thirty years EA Canada built its football series on the FIFA license, and FIFA 23 is where that partnership ends before the studio moved on to EA SPORTS FC. It shows in the scale of what is here: over 19,000 players, more than 700 teams, 100 stadiums and over 30 leagues, from the Premier League and La Liga to the Bundesliga, Serie A and Ligue 1. Authentic kits, badges, broadcast packages and stadium atmospheres make each fixture feel like the real thing rather than an approximation of it.

Developed by EA Canada in Burnaby, British Columbia, together with EA Romania in Bucharest, FIFA 23 also marks the point where the women's game became a proper part of the package. The Barclays FA Women's Super League and France's Division 1 Arkema sit alongside the women's national teams, so the club and international calendars finally line up across both sides of the sport.

HyperMotion2 Technology on the Pitch

HyperMotion2 builds on the machine-learning animation system EA introduced a year earlier, this time fed by advanced 11v11 match capture of full teams playing real games. The result is thousands of new animations that show up in the moments that matter: a striker adjusting a first touch under pressure, a defender jockeying a winger to the byline, a keeper reacting late to a deflection.

Technical dribbling and physicality
Ball carriers move with more purpose and can change direction faster, while shoulder-to-shoulder contests and jostling for position in the box feel weightier and more contested, with outcomes decided by strength and timing rather than a coin flip.
Power shots and set pieces
Power shots reward a well-timed wind-up with a strike that keepers struggle to hold, and the reworked free kick, penalty and corner systems give you finer control over contact point, curl and elevation from dead-ball situations.
Composure and defending
The AI reads the game more convincingly on both ends. Teammates make smarter supporting runs, and defenders hold their shape better, so patient build-up play and a well-drilled back line both pay off the way they do in real football.

Two World Cups and the Women's Game

The men's tournament in Qatar and the women's tournament in Australia and New Zealand were both added at no additional cost, and each is presented as its own event rather than a reskinned cup mode. All 32 qualified nations are included for each, with custom stadium dressings, tournament cinematics, dedicated commentary and match presentation built around the occasion.

  • Take your country from the group stage to the final with the authentic trophy waiting at the end, or rewrite the bracket by sending an outsider on a run the real tournament never saw.
  • Play through the women's tournament with the same depth of presentation as the men's, a first for the series and a fitting send-off for the FIFA branding.
  • Combine the World Cup content with the women's club sides for the most complete representation of the women's game any FIFA title has offered.

What FIFA 23 Offers Today

EA retired FIFA 23's online services on all platforms on October 30, 2025. FIFA Ultimate Team, Pro Clubs, online seasons, online co-op and cross-play no longer function, and there is nothing left to buy in-game. What remains is the offline football game underneath, which is still a substantial one. The modes below play without a live server.

  • Kick Off, custom tournaments and the two World Cup tournaments cover single matches, cup runs and full international campaigns against the AI at any difficulty you choose.
  • Career Mode lets you manage a club through transfers, tactics and youth development, or guide a single player from first professional contract to the top of the game.
  • Shared and split-screen play supports local versus matches and co-op against the AI on the same screen, with full controller support for everyone on the couch.

If you want the definitive closing chapter of EA SPORTS FIFA, with the deepest licensed roster of its era and two full World Cups to play through on your own terms, pick your nation, set your tactics and take the pitch one last time under the FIFA banner.
