A Sniper's War in the Western Desert
Set in 1942, the campaign follows Karl Fairburne from the siege of Tobruk through the Gaberoun oasis, Halfaya Pass, Fort Rifugio, Siwa and Kasserine to an airfield at Pont du Fahs and the hidden factory beyond it. What starts as a routine assignment against Rommel's supply lines becomes a hunt for a weapon that could end Allied resistance in Africa for good. Each mission is a large, multi-route space with primary and secondary objectives you can tackle in any order, so a ridge line, a wadi or a marketplace roof can become your firing position depending on how you choose to work.
Ballistics That Reward Patience
The series' signature gunplay is at its sharpest here. Every rifle shot accounts for distance, gravity, wind and your own heart rate, and the Western Desert's long sight lines invite shots that would be reckless anywhere else. Time the trigger to an artillery barrage or a running generator to mask the report, and the enemy will never know where the bullet came from.
- Revamped X-Ray Kill Cam
- A clean shot triggers the acclaimed slow-motion camera, now showing detailed muscle layers, 3D mesh particles and the complete circulatory system as the bullet passes through. You can tweak how often it appears, or turn it off entirely if you prefer to keep the flow of the hunt.
- X-Ray Vehicle Takedowns
- Vehicles are targets too. Multi-stage destruction lets you dismantle armored cars, trucks and Tiger tanks piece by piece, from shooting out a driver's view slit to detonating a fuel tank or an engine block once the plating has been stripped away.
Stealth, Traps and the Relocate Mechanic
Sniper Elite 3 gives you the tools to fight on your own terms. Stalk patrols through the twisting canyons with stealth and distractions, rig trip mines along a route you know a convoy will take, or drop an officer with a melee takedown before he can raise the alarm. If things go hot, the new Relocate mechanic lets you break contact, slip back into the shadows and start the hunt again from a fresh position instead of trading fire in the open.
- Sound masking turns the battlefield into cover: wait for artillery, generators or aircraft to drown out your rifle and the garrison keeps searching in the wrong direction.
- Traps, distractions and explosive ordnance give you options beyond the scope, so an enemy camp can be taken apart methodically without ever firing a long-range shot.
- Difficulty and assistance are fully adjustable. Turn off every aid and turn up the AI for the authentic experience, or dial the settings to suit your preferred playstyle.
Co-op and Competitive Multiplayer
The entire campaign can be played in two-player online co-op, with one partner spotting and the other pulling the trigger, or both working opposite flanks of a fort. Two dedicated co-op modes push teamwork further: Overwatch pairs a sniper with a spotter who must mark targets and handle close work, while Survival throws waves of Afrika Korps at your position.
Five competitive online modes cover everything from Team Deathmatch to Distance King and No Cross, where a valley separates the teams and only the longest, cleanest shots count. XP carries across all modes, and Medals and Ribbons reward the way you play as you customize your character, weapons and loadout.
