Risk of Rain 2 Review: A Sequel Worth Checking Out

Risk of Rain 2 combines excellent third-person shooting, fun four-player co-op, God tier roguelike gameplay with a vast array of juicy items into one incredible package that will definitely keep you playing long after you thought you would call it a night. There's no shortage of things to do in game, whether chasing down game-changing unlocks and Easter eggs across multiple runs, or just figuring out your teddy bear stack, you will be busy in a good way. Risk of Rain 2 is definitely one of our favorite co-op games in a long time.

What is Risk of Rain 2?

Risk of Rain 2 follows on from the fantastic first game, adding multiple players and new gameplay mechanics such as a third-person perspective, controllable cover, damage-firing, and special powers that help the player maintain strategic parity as the monsters they are trying to defeat keep evolving. In short, with tons of things to do to keep you entertained, this game is a lot of fun. You get to choose from four different characters to play with, each with their own unique abilities and equipment loadout. Where does it take you? Starting out the game will feel quite familiar. You are the sole survivor of a terrorist attack and trapped in an alien-infested war zone. You must keep yourself alive as the world ends around you.

What makes Risk of Rain 2 so good?

Risk of Rain is a classic third-person shooter that has been polished, updated, and crammed into the most vibrant vision possible. Risk of Rain 2 nails the gameplay down, provides an incredibly fun and unique experience that will not leave you until you've finished it. The controls are precise and fluid. I'm usually not a fan of speedy combat, and it can sometimes be frustrating. Risk of Rain 2 does an excellent job of making you feel like you're in the game, not just clicking away the buttons on your keyboard. It plays out similarly to bullet hell shooters, but on a much more controlled, but fast paced, level.

Conclusion

Risk of Rain 2 is definitely one of the best co-op shooters out there. The game is unique, fun and full of unlockables. Although the game is a bit short, its high replayability makes up for that and ensures that you won't be bored playing the game all the way through. The game is easy to pick up and play but the difficultly escalates and changes the way you play the game as you progress. Risk of Rain 2 feels fresh and satisfying to play. It's a fine package that is an absolute joy to play.
