Mad Max

The road took everything from Max: his Interceptor, his gear, his way out. Left for dead by the warlord Scabrous Scrotus and his War Boys, he has one path back, and it runs straight through the Wasteland. Avalanche Studios turns the Mad Max legend into a sprawling open-world action game where the car matters as much as the man driving it, and every scrap of metal you pull from a wreck brings the Plains of Silence a little closer.

A Wasteland Worth Fearing

This is not a desert backdrop. The Wasteland is a drained seabed carved into rival territories, each ruled by a warlord whose gangs have sunk their claws into the land with camps, sniper nests, minefields and lookout scarecrows. Gastown looms on the horizon as the source of guzzoline and the seat of Scrotus's power, and the remains of the old world (beached ships, drowned airports, half-buried highways) tell their own quiet story. Lightning storms sweep across the flats without warning, turning the sky green and the roads lethal, but the wreckage they leave behind is worth the risk.

Building the Magnum Opus

Your partner in all this is Chumbucket, a devout hunchbacked mechanic who believes Max is the Saint sent to drive his masterpiece. The Magnum Opus starts as a bare chassis and grows into whatever kind of predator you want it to be, with each part paid for in scrap and unlocked by clearing the Wasteland's threats.

Engines and body work
Choose between V6 and V8 powerplants, tune the exhaust and nitrous, and layer on armor plating, ramming grills and side spikes. Every choice pushes weight against speed, so a heavy war rig handles very differently from a stripped-down racer built for running down convoys.
Harpoon and Thunderpoon
Chumbucket rides the back of the Opus and mans its weapons. The harpoon lets you tear doors, wheels and drivers straight off enemy vehicles or pull down watchtowers and gates, while the explosive Thunderpoon ends an argument outright when you have the scrap to feed it.
Max's own upgrades
Max grows alongside his car. Scrap and Griffa tokens buy stronger shotgun rounds, a bigger canteen, faster Fury and tougher jackets, and the strongholds you support can be fitted with projects that keep you fed, fueled and stocked with ammo between runs.

Fists, Shivs and Shotguns

Out of the car, Max fights the way the Wasteland demands. The melee system flows from parries into brutal counters, and into the shiv when things get personal, and landing enough hits builds Fury, a state where Max stops holding back and finishes fights fast. Ammunition is scarce, so the sawed-off shotgun is a tool for the moments that matter rather than a crutch, and every camp you storm rewards a mix of patience, timing and sheer aggression.

  • Bandit camps are strongholds in miniature, guarded by gates, snipers and flame-throwing defenses. Taking one down and tearing out its warlord's effigy clears the surrounding roads and hands the territory's resources back to your allies.
  • Convoys thunder across the regions with armed outriders on every flank, and running one down from the driver's seat, harpooning escorts and hammering the lead rig until it burns, is Mad Max at its most cinematic.
  • Races, scavenging locations and hidden history relics pay out scrap and rare parts, and lowering a region's threat level opens up safer roads and better salvage the deeper you push.

The Long Road to Silence

Max wants out. The Plains of Silence, the storied place beyond the Wasteland where the madness finally stops, is the reason he tolerates Chumbucket, the strongholds and the warlords who stand between him and a full tank. The story threads through Jeet's cliffside fortress, Gutgash's beached tanker and the outposts beyond, with Scrotus and his lieutenant Stank Gum tightening the noose the closer you get to Gastown. It is a lean single-player tale of a man who keeps being pulled back into other people's wars, and it lands with the grim, dusty weight the films are known for.

Grab the wheel, get Chum on the back, and find out just how far the road to the Plains of Silence really runs. The Wasteland is not getting any kinder, and Max was never built to wait.
