Three Criminals, Three Stories
Grand Theft Auto V doesn't follow a single protagonist. You can switch between three leads at almost any moment, in free roam and in the middle of missions. Each of them has his own life, his own problems and his own reasons for going back to crime, and none of them finds it easy to trust the other two.
- Franklin Clinton
- A young repo man from South Los Santos who wants out of small-time gang life and into real money. He is the most grounded of the three and a gifted driver whose special ability slows time behind the wheel, so a tight chase turns into a precise escape.
- Michael De Santa
- A former bank robber living a comfortable, miserable retirement in Rockford Hills under a quiet arrangement with the FIB. His family barely tolerates him and his past won't stay buried, and together they pull him back toward one more score.
- Trevor Philips
- A volatile career criminal who runs his own operations out of the desert town of Sandy Shores. He is unpredictable, violent and often darkly funny, the wildcard every job has to plan around, and his history with Michael runs deeper than either of them admits.
Heists That Reward Planning
The heists are the backbone of the story. Each one is a multi-stage operation, not a single mission, and the planning you do with Lester Crest, the crew's reclusive fixer, shapes how the job plays out once it starts.
- Choose how to take on the big jobs. You weigh a loud, direct assault against a quieter and more careful plan, then run the setup missions that gather the vehicles, gear and intel the score depends on.
- Hire a crew of gunmen, drivers and hackers. Seasoned professionals take a bigger cut of the take. Cheaper recruits leave more money for you, but they can cost you dearly when things go wrong.
- Switch between Michael, Franklin and Trevor during the job itself. You cover each role in turn, so a single heist plays out from several angles at once as the plan comes together or falls apart.
Los Santos and Blaine County
The map runs from the glossy hills of Vinewood and the beaches of Vespucci and Del Perro out to the dusty trailer parks of Sandy Shores, the Alamo Sea and the forests around Mount Chiliad. Between missions there is plenty to do: golf and tennis, off-road races and triathlons, hunting in the backcountry, trading on the in-game stock market and buying properties that pay out over time. Every step out of line draws the police, and a wanted level becomes a tense search that you have to slip before the net closes.
This enhanced version builds on the original release with increased draw distances and higher resolution, new weapons, vehicles and activities, more wildlife, denser traffic, a new foliage system, and improved damage and weather effects. The radio stations add pointed satire, talk shows and a soundtrack that runs from hip-hop to rock, pop and country, and the city feels alive whether you are working a job or just driving.
