Resident Evil 5 takes Chris Redfield far from Raccoon City and into the harsh daylight of Africa. He is now an agent of the Bioterrorism Security Assessment Alliance, sent to investigate a biological agent that is turning the local population into aggressive, disturbing creatures, and this time he does not go in alone. His partner is fellow BSAA agent Sheva Alomar, and the game builds Capcom's survival horror around two people who have to trust each other to make it out alive.
A New Threat After Umbrella
The Umbrella Corporation and its viruses have been destroyed and contained, but the trade in bio-organic weapons did not end with them. Chris has spent the years since Raccoon City hunting that threat around the world, and the trail now leads to the Kijuju Autonomous Zone. There, a parasitic agent has turned ordinary townspeople into the Majini: hostile, coordinated and armed with whatever they can carry. The investigation takes Chris and Sheva from crowded shanty towns into marshlands, ancient ruins and sprawling industrial sites, and toward a conspiracy that settles scores going back to the series' earliest days.
Built Around Partnership
- Two-Player Co-op
- You can play the entire campaign cooperatively, with one player as Chris and the other as Sheva. If you play solo, Sheva fights alongside you under AI control, covering your flanks, picking up supplies and stepping in when you get into trouble.
- Shared Supplies
- Partners can pass ammunition, grenades and healing herbs to each other on the fly, so keeping both characters stocked matters as much as aiming well. Inventory is managed in real time, which means opening your item grid never pauses the fight around you.
- Watching Each Other's Backs
- Partners boost each other up ledges, open heavy doors together and split up to cover one another through tougher sections. When one of you is grabbed or knocked into a dying state, the other has to get there fast to break them free or get them back on their feet.
Combat and Firepower
- Over-the-shoulder aiming lets you place your shots precisely. A hit to a Majini's leg or head staggers it, and you can close in for a powerful melee follow-up that can turn a crowded fight in your favor.
- Treasure and gold you gather in the field pay for new weapons between chapters, from handguns and shotguns to machine guns, rifles and explosives. You can upgrade each one for firepower, capacity and reload speed.
- Large boss encounters and set pieces force both partners to coordinate. You face hulking executioners, chainsaw-wielding attackers and grotesque bio-organic weapons that take more than raw firepower to bring down.
Horror in Broad Daylight
Resident Evil 5 trades the dark corridors of earlier entries for scorching sun and open streets, and the result is a different kind of dread. Majini swarm in from rooftops, alleyways and doorways, safe ground rarely stays safe for long, and the action builds to cinematic moments punctuated by quick-time events. It is a louder, more action-forward Resident Evil than the ones before it. Scarce ammunition and enemies that refuse to stay down still keep it firmly rooted in survival horror.
If you have wanted to see where Chris Redfield's long fight against bioterrorism leads, Resident Evil 5 is the chapter that brings it to a head. Bring a partner you trust, or let Sheva cover you, check your ammo and step into Kijuju.
