FIFA 21 is EA SPORTS' 2020 edition of The World's Game, built by EA Vancouver and EA Romania around more than 17,000 licensed players, over 700 teams, 90+ stadiums and 30+ leagues from every corner of the globe. It is the FIFA that reworked Career Mode from the ground up, sharpened dribbling and off-the-ball movement on the pitch, and gave Kick Off a set of House Rules for the nights when the scoreline matters less than the fun.
Every Big Competition, Fully Licensed
The licensing is what separates FIFA from everything else in the genre, and FIFA 21 carries the full set. Real kits, real badges, real broadcast packages and the authentic stadium atmosphere of the competitions that decide seasons:
- UEFA Champions League
- The full tournament with its anthem, presentation and group-stage draw, playable as a standalone competition or as the prize at the end of a domestic campaign in Career Mode. Midweek European nights feel different, and they should.
- Premier League, LaLiga Santander and Bundesliga
- Europe's biggest domestic leagues arrive with every club, every player and league-specific presentation, so a Saturday at Anfield or the Allianz Arena looks and sounds the way it does on television.
- CONMEBOL Libertadores

Career Mode, Managed Moment by Moment
Career Mode is where FIFA 21 made its biggest strides. The Interactive Match Sim lets you watch a fixture unfold from the touchline, jump in when the game turns and hand it back when it settles, so a long season no longer means choosing between playing every minute and skipping everything. Player development gained genuine texture: training plans shape sharpness ahead of each match, and position conversion turns a quick winger into a full-back or a tall midfielder into a center-back over a season rather than overnight.
Transfers grew up as well. Loan-to-buy deals, player swaps and more flexible negotiation give you real tools when the budget is tight, and the scouting network still rewards patience with the kind of youth prospect who becomes the face of the club five seasons later. Manage a giant, rebuild a fallen one, or take a lower-league side up through the pyramid; the mode holds up across all three.
Kick Off and House Rules
Kick Off is the quick match, and House Rules is where it loosens up. Survival removes a player from the scoring team after every goal, No Rules switches off fouls and offsides entirely, and the other variants bend the game in ways that make a friendly with someone new to FIFA a fairer, funnier contest. It is a good way to bring newcomers in before a serious match, and a good way to unwind after one.
EA retired FIFA 21's online services on November 6, 2023, so FIFA Ultimate Team and online matches are no longer available. Kick Off and Career Mode play entirely offline, and that is where the game lives now.
How It Plays on the Pitch
- Agile Dribbling adds close, responsive touches to beat a defender in tight spaces, so a skilled winger can work a yard of room without leaning on a skill move every time.
- Creative Runs put off-the-ball movement in your hands: direct a teammate's run before you release the pass, or lock to a player and make the run yourself while the AI keeps possession.
- Positioning Personality means the best players move like themselves, with strikers timing runs and midfielders finding pockets of space based on who they actually are.
- A revised collision system produces more natural outcomes in physical contests, and full controller support means a DUALSHOCK 4 or an Xbox pad both feel right from the first kick.
