DiRT 4 is Codemasters doing what it does best: putting you behind the wheel of a rally car on a narrow road, a sheer drop on one side, and asking how committed you really are. Built on the foundations of the Colin McRae Rally games, it pairs the realism of DiRT Rally with the accessible, adrenaline-fueled racing of DiRT 2 and DiRT 3. It then spreads that across rally, rallycross, Landrush and Joyride.
Your Stage: A Rally Route for Every Run
The headline feature is Your Stage, a route creation tool that builds a unique rally stage at the press of a button. Pick a location from Australia, Spain, Michigan, Sweden or Wales, set the route parameters, and the game lays out a fresh stage with its own corners, crests and hazards. Experienced drivers can generate long, technical routes that demand total trust in the pace notes, while newcomers can dial in shorter, simpler stages as they build confidence. With millions of possible routes, you never memorize the road. You read it, the way real rally drivers have to.
Four Ways to Get Sideways
- Rally
- Classic point-to-point stages against the clock, with your co-driver calling the road ahead. Surfaces shift from Welsh forest gravel to Swedish snow and Spanish tarmac, and a single misjudged crest can undo a whole stage's worth of work.
- FIA World Rallycross
- As the official game of the FIA World Rallycross Championship, DiRT 4 puts you wheel to wheel on real circuits including Montalegre, Lohéac Bretagne, Hell and Lydden Hill. Mixed-surface tracks, joker laps and packed starts make for bruising, short-format racing across a range of series.
- Landrush
- Short-course dirt track racing in Pro Buggies, Pro-2 Trucks, Pro-4 Trucks and Crosskart vehicles, set in California, Nevada and Mexico. Big jumps, tight packs and heavy trucks throwing their weight around make this the loudest, rowdiest discipline in the game.
- Joyride
- An open playground for sharpening your skills and having fun, with laptime challenges, smash challenges and a free-play area. It is the place to learn how a new car rotates, practice your launches, or just see how much air you can get.
Career Mode and the DirtFish Rally School
Career Mode lets you create your driver, compete across every discipline, win over sponsors and grow your own team, with clear goals and rewards marking your progress. If you are new to loose-surface driving, DiRT Academy at the DirtFish Rally School in Washington, USA teaches the skills and techniques that make the difference once the grip runs out.
EA has shut down DiRT 4's online services, so online multiplayer, RaceNet and the community challenges are no longer available. Career Mode, Your Stage, DiRT Academy and every discipline above play fully offline.
Over 50 Cars, Built to Be Driven Hard
The garage spans more than 50 off-road machines from across the sport's history, including the Ford Fiesta R5, Mitsubishi Lancer Evolution VI, Subaru WRX STI NR4 and the fire-breathing Audi Sport quattro S1 E2. Tuning lets you adjust your setup for each vehicle, track and weather condition, so a car that feels nervous on Swedish snow can be settled down before the next stage.
Damage is modeled realistically, and wear and tear builds as you push. Between stages, your hired Engineers work in the Service Area to repair the car, but time is limited, so every repair is a choice about what matters most for the road ahead.
