Plants vs Zombies: Garden Warfare

Plants vs Zombies: Garden Warfare takes the lawn war out of the tower-defense grid and drops it into a full third-person shooter. PopCap built it on Frostbite, the same engine behind Battlefield, and kept every ounce of the series' humor: peas are bullets, a Chomper swallows zombies whole, and the undead turn up in football pads and lab coats to take the neighborhood back.

Plants and Zombies, Each With Their Own Playbook

The plant side is the garden's defense force. The Peashooter is the all-rounder with a Chili Bean Bomb and a Pea Gatling for holding a lane, the Sunflower keeps the team alive with a Heal Beam, the Chomper is pure close-range menace that burrows under the ground and eats zombies whole, and the Cactus snipes from range while laying Potato Mines and Tallnut walls. Every class feels different in the hands, and the abilities are what make the fights click.

The zombies answer with Dr. Zomboss's crew. The Foot Soldier is the rifle-and-rocket backbone, the Engineer rides a jackhammer into battle and builds teleporters to move the team forward, the Scientist heals and warps around the map, and the All-Star charges through the front line with a football cannon and a Sprint Tackle. The two rosters are not mirror images, so switching sides genuinely changes how a match plays.

Modes for Every Kind of Match

Gardens & Graveyards
The signature mode, with up to 24 players. The zombies push through a chain of gardens across the map while the plants dig in and defend each one, and the fight ends with a big set-piece objective. Winning as either side means reading the map and moving as a team.
Team Vanquish and Suburbination
Team Vanquish is a straight team deathmatch where every vanquish counts toward the score. Suburbination has the two sides fighting over three capture points, so the action keeps rotating around the map instead of settling into one chokepoint.
Garden Ops co-op
Up to four plants hold a garden against ten waves of zombies, planting potted defenders, reviving each other and bracing for the boss waves that bring in the Yeti, the Disco Zombie and the Gargantuar. It also works solo against the AI, though the game is always online, so you will still need a connection and an EA account.
Boss Mode
An overhead commander seat where you support your team from above, spending coins on heals, revives, reveals and strikes while the rest of the squad fights on the ground. It is a different way to contribute to a match, and it can be played on its own as well.

Sticker Packs and Customization

Every match pays out coins, and coins buy Sticker Packs. Packs hold consumables for the field, such as potted plants to place during Garden Ops or zombies to summon in a push, plus hats, glasses, facial hair and accessories to dress up your characters. They also hold the sticker pieces that unlock character variants, and the variants are the real prize: a Fire Peashooter sets zombies alight, an Ice Cactus slows what it hits, and a Camo Ranger hits harder from range. The more you play, the deeper your roster gets, and a well-dressed Foot Soldier is its own reward.

Why Garden Warfare Still Holds Up

Garden Warfare works because it is a proper class shooter with real depth wearing a very silly costume. The maps reward teamwork, the classes have clear roles, and the tone stays cheerful even when a Gargantuar is stomping through your last garden. It is also one of the friendliest shooters to bring a family member or a newer player into, since a good Sunflower or Scientist is welcome on any team.

Pick a side, open a Sticker Pack and get out on the lawn. The neighborhood is waiting.
