Minecraft Dungeons takes the blocky world millions of players already know and rebuilds it as a top-down action RPG in the tradition of classic dungeon crawlers. Mojang Studios developed it with Double Eleven. You play alone or with up to three friends through levels packed with treasure, on a quest to stop the Arch-Illager. He was an outcast who found the Orb of Dominance and turned its power against the villagers. The Hero Edition includes the full base game, the Jungle Awakens and Creeping Winter DLCs, a Hero Cape, two player skins and a chicken pet.
A Campaign Built from Familiar Blocks
The campaign moves through very different biomes, from Creeper Woods and Pumpkin Pastures to the Redstone Mines and the halls of the Illager stronghold. Each mission is its own treasure hunt. You'll fight zombies, skeletons and creepers alongside the Arch-Illager's own forces: Vindicators with axes, spell-casting Evokers and Enchanters that make every nearby mob tougher. Some maps hide secret levels for players who explore every corner. When you finish the story on Default, Adventure and then Apocalypse difficulty unlock, with harder enemies and better loot for each tier.
Your Gear Is Your Class
- Melee and Ranged Weapons
- There are no fixed classes, so the weapons you equip decide how you fight. You can use swords, spears, axes and heavier melee weapons up close, then switch to a bow or crossbow to pick off enemies from a distance without changing your loadout.
- Armor
- Armor sets come with their own built-in bonuses, such as extra damage, faster cooldowns or better survivability. You can build a heavy-armor tank to wade through swarms of mobs, or wear something lighter and rely on speed and positioning.
- Artifacts
- You have three artifact slots, and each artifact is a cooldown-based ability. A Fireworks Arrow clears a crowd, a Totem of Regeneration heals the whole party and a Tasty Bone calls in a wolf to fight beside you. These picks shape how a build plays as much as your weapons do.
- Enchantments
- You earn enchantment points as you level up, and you spend them on the enchantment slots each item carries. Salvaging an item gives its points back. Finding a new unique item can change your whole build, and that loop of trying and swapping gear is what keeps the game compelling.
What the Hero Edition Adds
- Jungle Awakens opens an overgrown jungle region with three new missions, including Panda Plateau. It brings new mobs such as Whisperers and Leapleafs, plus weapons, armor and artifacts you won't find in the base campaign.
- Creeping Winter takes the fight to a frozen region of icy missions. The Iceologer makes its debut here as a new enemy, and the region adds more gear to collect and more enchantment combinations to try.
- Hero Pass cosmetics give you a Hero Cape, two player skins and a chicken pet that follows you through every dungeon. Your hero looks the part from the first mission.
Better with a Party
Minecraft Dungeons works well solo, but it's at its best with a group. Up to four players can play together online or in couch co-op on one shared screen. Cross-platform play lets you form a party with friends on Xbox, Nintendo Switch and PlayStation through the in-game party system. With four heroes on screen, each running a different build, the busiest fights turn into a colorful mix of fireworks, summoned wolves and area attacks.
Gather your party, pick a mission from the camp map and find out which build takes you all the way to the Arch-Illager. The villagers need a hero, and the jungle and the frozen missions are ready for you when the main campaign is done.
