Pillars of Eternity is a relatively new series, with the first game appearing in 2015. The first two games in the series are isometric RPGs in the same vein as the classic Baldur's Gate series. Both games were developed by Obsidian and initially crowdfunded, the first on Kickstarter and the second on Fig. Both games met with critical and fan acclaim.
The series features beautifully drawn 2D backgrounds, deep and rich stories and quality voice acting. Pillars of Eternity shows that there is still quite a bit of life left in what many consider an 'old-school' design with many in the industry citing the games as examples of how to do an RPG right.
